We stayed in Canfranc this time last year, a few weeks after it opened. It was almost empty and we got insanely lucky with the rates - we stayed in the penthouse for about €80/night. It was fabulous but so odd; as you say, it’s so hard to get to and there’s not much in the village. I was surprised I couldn’t find much information on its history there either - I ended up speaking to a French teacher on a school trip who filled me in!

That is lucky, rooms start at about 200 now! And also, yes, they should have a little museum or something, I saw a couple of soggy notice boards dotted about the place with snippets of info, but basically had to google the life out of it afterwards!

I'd wondered whether some of the remaining sheds might be turned into a little museum; it's a shame to not know more about it (and there are some really interesting stories about locals who helped people over the border to escape the Nazis).

I had figured the prices would skyrocket, which is why we splashed out on the suite. There's no way we'd ever get the chance to stay there again now 😆
